Course Description

Paddle Making Workshop @ RiverWood Designs Omagh 2day Workshop, choice of *Canoe or *Greenland paddle. Learn how to carve your very own Greenland/Canoe paddle in our relaxed warm and welcoming workshop.. Our workshops are kept small and each class is led by Furniture maker come kayaker Patrick (that's me :) As a qualified Paddlesport instructor & White Water leader I have blended two of my passions, woodworking and kayaking into paddle making. At the beginning of the course participants are provided with a paddle blank and at the end of day2 they take away their finely fashioned wooden paddle. We break each course down step by step with demonstrations and easy to follow instructions. The aim is, of course, to leave with a finished piece but this is dependent on the participants progress over the two days. Participants have the full use of the necessary hand tools to complete the project. The only power tools used are belt/orbital sanders. Walnut, Sapele, Ash & Cedar is the chosen Woods in your Paddles. Strength, weight ratio & beautiful colour tones as well as easier to carve. Full details on the day. Timing: Saturday runs from 9.30am to 4.30 pm Sunday runs from 10 am to finish of paddle or 4.30 pm Participants are required to bring lunch but there is a garage/deli within 3miles. Tea and coffee biscuits etc will be available (free) through the day. Frequent breaks are recommended throughout the day. We stop for lunch but the length of the break is up to the participants. Skills you will learn; *Tool selection for carving *Hand planing using Planes, spoke shaves and rasps *Measuring, Marking& cutting *Timber knowledge *Sanding (masks provided) *Finishes All personal protection, use of tools and materials are included in the price. **Courses are limited to 6 participants. **2 day Course **Course will will only run on this date with a minimum of 4 participants *Greenland paddle measuring guide, (to be filled out on purchase page) PADDLE LENGTH cm; Stand with your arm straight above you head, fingers out straight and measure from floor to your knuckles. (this will give the overall paddle length required) LOOM LENGTH cm; Measure your shoulder width, outside to outside. (this will give the required loom length) *Canoe paddles don't require customers sizing, this will be sized/cut once you attend the course If you purchase the Canoe Paddle please type the number '0' into the marked fields *Greenland Paddle length & *Greenland Loom length

Cancellation Policy

Workshops are held at RiverWood Designs. Workshops are non-refundable, but with 14days notice can be transferred to an alternative date.
